Heroes Academy - BI Engineering
Already working with reports, spreadsheets or dashboards, and want to turn that into a career? The Heroes Academy is a six-month paid traineeship that gives you a solid start as a BI engineer on Power BI and Microsoft Fabric: three months of hands-on training, followed by three months of real project work.
About the academy
The Academy starts on Monday 1 February 2027 at our office in Utrecht. In the first three months, you'll train in short, intensive sprints. Together with the Data Engineering trainees, you'll start with the foundations of data, learn how to use generative AI in your daily work as a data professional, build a strong base in SQL and data modelling, and see how data projects are run in practice.
In the BI Engineering track, you'll then focus on Power BI. You'll model data into semantic models that are easy to use, design clear and effective reports, write DAX and tune report performance, and manage your Power BI work with version control. The training ends with a two-week capstone project where you bring it all together. Along the way, you'll prepare for Microsoft certifications, and Heroes covers all exam costs.
In the final three months, you'll put your skills to work on client or internal projects. Heroes works with organisations such as Eneco, Unica, TenneT, the City of Breda, the City of Zwolle, GNT (Exberry), Swiss Sense and Kentalis.
Key requirements
You are based in the Netherlands.

You have excellent communication skills and a teamwork mentality.
You are eager to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
You have hands-on experience with Excel, reports or dashboards, in any role.
You enjoy turning business questions into clear numbers and visuals.
Bonus points:
You can write basic SQL queries.
You have already taken your first steps in Power BI or a similar tool.
You speak Dutch
Working at Heroes
The BI Engineering track is designed for people who already work with numbers, reports or spreadsheets and want to make that their profession. That includes career switchers and people at the start of their careers alike, because your motivation matters more than your background. We learn by doing. Each sprint opens with a lecture, continues with a hands-on case study, and ends with you presenting your results on Friday. Every sprint is led by two experienced Heroes consultants who act as your mentors, and a coach supports you throughout the programme.
Heroes has around 30 people, so you're part of the team from day one and work directly with senior consultants. You'll work hybrid, around three days a week at our Utrecht office, and you'll get a laptop and an NS Business Card for commuting and client travel. The programme is fast-paced and asks for real commitment. After the Academy, our goal is to offer you a role as a junior consultant at Heroes, depending on client projects and your performance. Several of our current consultants started their careers here through the Academy.
